Hi All, after some advice.
I took delivery yesterday evening of a set of 17 inch Gtv Teledials - these I bought from ebay Germany. The price was right, theyre straight and come with nice matching tyres in good condition. The hassle I had getting them over here was monumental though. The seller assured me that he comes to the UK very frequently by car/van as his job brings him over here - funnily enough after paying for them, he had no reason to come over here in over three months...
Anyhow, I bought them thinking that I would have them refurbed to "as new" standard as that is what I am trying to do with every element of my car. On examination, three of them are fine (minor chipping and minor kerbing) that I know will disappear in a refurb.
The third one has somewhat more serious kerbing that has almost "sharpened" up the rounded lip of the rim (see pics). I'd like to know if anyone has had similar damage refurbed - does this mean that the rim is lathed down until the damage is cut out or does it mean that the rim is built up (welding or other material) to do the repair?
I have just had a set of wheels refurbed for my GT but they were not badly kerbed, instead they were bubbling in the centres and each of the 4 had flat spots (made for an interesting vibro-drive) - Platinum Alloy Wheels in Swindon, very good service. However they are an hours drive each way from me and I don't want to take them there and be told that the one is unfixable. What do you reckon?
