Ive managed to fix my boot so I can open it from button in glove box:lol: but now I want some boot struts so when I operate the remote boot switch the boot fully opens, at the moment it opens but does not pop up. My gas struts are no good as the boot lid wont stay open.............whats best for some decent struts..........I cant do a search on forum as stupid tablet wont let me ........thanks
I'm not sure that the boot will open fully after pressing the release button.
The GTVs and the spider I've owned have only ever unlocked and I've had to manually lift the lid to the open position, where it will stay if the struts are serviceable.
I did fit some alternate struts from a 156 (I believe) that did fully open the boot from pressing the release button but the stress put on the boot lid when in the closed position, made me revert to the correct items.
Hope this helps!!!!
The gas struts from the factory would not do they the button just pops it open and the lit needs to be lifted around 4-6 inches before the struts push it fully
there is a 156 mod from a 156 engine bonnet strut and that helps but still wont pop it open
My last car was a jag s type and the boot fully opened from button in side car.......I presumed if I got some different struts it would do the same for the gtv!!!!!!!
There is a very short Youtube film of a GTV owner who has done the conversion using 156 struts. When I see how comparatively flimsy the metal is on on the boot of both my 916's I think I'll be giving this conversion a miss.
