GTV 1.8l TS

Petrol 91/95 RON

I just bought a 2000, 1.8 ts GTV, beautiful and extra special as it is the only one in my city (500,000 people).

I have spent the last 2 days getting used to it and simply enjoying it a lot, and I stopped to question myself as to which fuel to use. Here in Germany we have really a choice of 3:

Normal unleaded - 91 RON
Super unleaded - 95 RON
Shell V Power - 100 RON

As most people on this forum seem to use "Normal", so did I. However I have just read that in England "normal" is 95 RON. Can someone confirm that please?

And, if I am using 91 RON, is that ok for a 1,8l TS? or should i really use the 95?

Is it simply a calculation of power/price/mpg? Or is there a "It'll ruin your engine" consideration?

Re: Petrol 91/95 RON

In my 156 manual it gives reccomendations for octane figures. If your car is set up the same as UK models, you should use 95 RON minimum.

Re: Petrol 91/95 RON

Here in Australia we have
Normal 91 RON and 95 and 98 and 99 RON.....
but modern Alfa Romeos need 95 RON...nothing more and nothing less

If you use 91 RON for a extended period (ie not an "accidental" refill) you will damage the engine. If you use more than 95 RON you may find the car pulls a little smoother but are unlikely to get any more fuel economy.

Yes, normal in the UK is 95 RON. Though its possible to get 97 and 99. I use Shell Optimaxin my GTV, which is 97 RON. The car definitely runs better on it.
