HELP!! GTV doesn't like this weather!

Don't know where to start with this one, i have a 2 litre 2001 GTV and it is not happy!!

It's really been struggling to get going when cold starting, it chugs and the lights on the dash dim then it remembers its a car and will drive. I've changed the air filter and MAF sensor but no joy.

Its getting worse and worse, last night it took four attempts to actually get it running and when i did drive it, it was running really rich and backfiring in the engine. When i'm parked up and reving, there is a big delay between your foot going down and the rev counter going up, sometimes looks like the revs drop off as you put your foot down

Had a few suggestions as to where to start, an electrical fault somewhere, possibly the lambda sensor. Don;t know whether to just give it to my local garage or replace sensors at random and hope i get a winner.

Its probably worth mentioning that my temperature gauge has a mind of its own, has always sat at zero when cruising along roads but as soon as i hit a traffic jam, the temp shoots up. But that has been like it since i've owned it so don;t know if its connected or not.

Any body got any ideas?!

Best thing to do is get it diagnosed, but at a guess id say throttle control valve on throttle body? Id say also check your induction for leaks too. As regards temp its classic signs of failed thermostat and if temp is going above 100o check your fans are kicking in by removing blue connector at thermostat with key to MAR. If you find temps climbing over 100o and fans work replace fan resistors usually the bottom one as this is most exposed to elements.
