GTV Air flow meter diagnostic
Not sure if this subject has been posted here before so thought I 'd share a little something I learnt from Jamie Porter at the Alfa Workshop.
I've just bought myself a GTV 3l. The same day I bought it I was driving along when it lost all power and the engine eventually stalled. It would turn over but the revs immediately dropped off to a stall.
My local mechanic put it on the diagnostic and got 6 fault codes including air flow meter and crank shaft sensor. My mechanic wasn't sure which so suggested going for the sensor first as it was cheaper.
When I rang the Alfa Workshop for the part he discussed the problem and said it was more likely to be the AFM. He advised the way to prove this is to unplug it. In these situations the car goes into 'limp home' mode and should still tick over.
Hope this helps someone else.
p.s. since it's been in the garage I've been looking at posts and realised that the car did feel a bit flat in the 3k to 4k rev band which is another indicator.
RBAS member no. not quite sure but definately in the top 5
