Gtv 2.0 tss

Hi there guys, I have just purchased a 1997 GTV 2.0 TS. I have never owned an alfa romeo but after seeing my girlfriends fathers GTV, I knew I would have to own one.

I have owned it for a couple of weeks now and it has started using a lot of coolant, filled it to max a week ago now it's half way between max and min. I know very little about cars in general (barely nothing!!), but want to learn. the only leak I can see is coming from the exhaust in the middle of the car. And it's quite frequent when the engine is running.

Could someone please help me get started with this.

Are you sure its coolant you can see on the centre exhaust, seems an odd place for it to be getting too.Is the fluid dripping off the exhaust or dripping out of the exhaust? All i can think of for that area is the heater matrix/pipes leaking down onto the exhaust

You shouldn't see any water leak from an exhaust. Condensation can form so water forms in the exhaust and if you have lots of small journeys a lot of water builds up. If the exhaust is faulty this could drip out but I feel that if that is happening then that is another problem (sorry). Water simply does not leak from the coolant system into the exhaust.

Go to garage and get a pressure test done (don't worry they will know what that is) - this will give you a definitive answer. It could well be a head gasket (hope not), leaking rad (hope so - cheaper) problem - but get the pressure test done to be sure.

Check out JRow's post too - a bit of a wild card but possible.
