I have been with out reverse lights for some time now and I finally got around to fixing them.
It was one of those jobs that wasn’t that important but proved hard to find useful info on other than general conversations so it got put off.
Quite a few members seem to have had the same issue of reverse lights either stuck on but or not working thought their globes and electrics look ok.
Thus I have taken a few photos along the way to provide a guide for replacement of the reverse switch on the v6 GTV.
This is not a convoluted job but give yourself an hour and even the dodgiest of DIYers can do this easily.
What you will need:
Replacement switch [v6 is different to the twinny one btw] cheap on ebay
22mm socket that is deep [like a spark plug socket]
Screwdriver and pliers for air hose clips depending on which you have.
The switch is located on the top of the gearbox below the air hose and coolant tank. See circled areas in photobucket links.
Remove hose from throttle body to the MAF and cover maf with clean rag so as not to get it dirty while working.
Carefully unclip the plastic connector for the wires and use the long 22mm socket to remove.
I used and extension and a knuckle to get a bit better leverage but it isn’t necessary. There is a lot of thread and you barely get a few clicks on the wrench!
A few have said they had success cleaning it with carb cleaner and reinstalling if it was stuck so I tried this for the guide but it didn’t work for me but the new switch worked great!! Finally rear lights…yay!
