It should not take a lot of time at all, no more than a normal.
The question is was the lorry driver at fault?
Was there whitnesses to support the fact it was the lorry driver?
I was reversed into by a dutch lorry driver...he acted a bit iffy so called the police, they told me they were unable to attend unless anyone was hurt.
I explained that he was not going to pass on insurance details...still they said it was not a police matter.
I then told him that unless the driver was going to give details, he was going to effectivley leave the scene of the accident and that I would have to restrain him, and this might mean I might accidently kill him.
10 minutes later they turned up.
The driver gave his details to the police and it was later found out to all be false.
Direct line sorted everything out no excess due, thanks to the police officers report, and the case was refered to the MIB, that dragged on months after I got my car back promptly and no excess to pay 3 weeks in all.
Foreign driver you are entitled to ask for police assistance, and don't be fobbed of by the control room.
If they are not being cooperative...a friend of mine had an accident where the driver claimed not to understand english and would not admit anything even though 2 whitnesses saw the driver swerve his truck and side swipe him.
lukily it dragged on for a period and traffic cops turned up, and funny when chatting to the driver has english improved.
