I've not looked at this connector closely, but if it is like other airbag connectors on the car, there may be a spring loaded piece of wire that shorts those pins when the plug is disconnected. It means that the dash warning light illuminates if the connector becomes disconnected ( either accidentally or deliberately ).
It's a bit of an 'if', but worth checking before possible needless work. The whole system is designed for the light only to be off if everything is connected and the ECU passes it's self-check.
If you still have the steering wheel/clockspring from the blue GTV, you can see what I mean by looking inside the steering column side connector of the clockspring - although that is there to short out the actual airbag as a safety devive ( not short the warning light ).
