temp guage reads maxium

Cars been sitting .. and does that ..soon as switch ignition .. on . Temp sender .. ?? Cheers

Either the temperature sensor or the wire is shorted to GND.
The temperature sensor is NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) resistor.
The higher the temperature is the lower the sensor resistor is.
You can try to remove the wire from the temperature sensor.
If the gauge then drops then if you have a multimeter then you can verify if it is the sensor that malfunction by measuring the resistance from sensor pad to GND.
If the sensor isn't shorted then it is either the wire that is shorted or a malfunction in the gauge itself
