GTV buying advice

With a change in my circumstances including a house move in the near future, i am looking at possIbly downgrading from my GT to maybe a 3 or 4 year old GTV.

Now i have read articles questioning the reliability of the GTV, is this the case? Would be nice to hear what owners think.

Also what should i look out for when buying a used GTV? Is it just the usual, cambelt etc or are there other issues i should look for?

One last question on my mind, is that i bought a 3 year service plan with my GT, would this now be money wasted even if i sold it back to the dealer or is it possible to get a refund or a transfer to another car?

Thanks in advance for any input anyone can give me.

Working my way through the Alfas, had a 155, a 156, a GT and 2 GTVs also.

Re: GTV buying advice

the buyers guide on here is very good.

some of the things i found out from it and other places :

cambelts, variator, rear suspension bushes, bottom of radiator (corosion trap apparently),
side windows (no frames so delicate), parking dents in doors and no door protectors,

but then i'm a newbie here so will be much more out there.

Re: GTV buying advice

I did read that the 3 litre GTV uses Rose joints in the rear suspension, so does not suffer as many issues as the 2 litre versions which use rubber bushes. I am not sure how true this is. Other than that the othger typical issues are similar to other Alfa's.. Making sure belts are changed, oil level maintained etc.

Re: GTV buying advice

GTV not particularly fragile, just needs proper looking after. Pay attention to oil level, cam belts and tensioners. Variator problems sometimes linked to irregular oil changes. Air bag light coming on linked to moving seats whilst ignition is on. If you look at other make forums you'll see similar issues.
