Interesting running/idle problem.
Wondering if anyone could please give me some pointers on an odd running problem with my GTV. (2.0 ts, plastic top).
When i first bought it, it was down on power and would shudder quite dramatically when the throttle was lifted, also the revs would drop to 0 on the gauge and then backup up when i dipped the clutch. At this point i discovered the induction flexi was badly split in several places so i repaired it with self amalgamating tape. This repair fixed the power loss but the rev dropping and the shudder remained.
Eventually, over the course of 6 months driving, the rev dropping stopped by itself but the kangarooing at low speed has always remained so last week a bought a new induction flexi from Alfaholics and fitted it this weekend.
The fit wasn't perfect, the locating notch at the bottom was on the wrong side so i had to cut another one on the top, also the pipe is a lot softer than the old one (new rubber?) and seems a looser fit. I managed to get all the clamps done up tightly though.
The first time I started after fitting the new pipe the car wouldn't start at all! I thumped all the connectors under the bonnet then it started straight away.
Now though, the revs drop every time I dip the clutch to pull up to a junction and climb slightly when i dip the clutch to change gear. The kangerooing is also a little worse.
I doubt the new flexi is the blame, My theory is that it is making the origional issue more pronounced because there are no leaks (happy to be corrected though).
This morning though, everything was different. At no point did the revs drop when i dipped the clutch but instead the idle kept settling at around 1200rpm. The throttle responce was also a little slower. every time i stopped i had to rev to over 2000rpm to allow the idle to settle at 900rpm. The kangerooing was even more pronounced still.
I am really scratching my head now, can anyone please advise on what to check/test next?
