Bonnet hinge bolt has sheared
Opened the bonnet to check the oil a couple of weeks ago and when I closed it I heard a crack and the bonnet went a bit limp.
On closer inspection the passenger side bolt which the bonnet is hinged on had sheard through. I managed to get the bonnet shut (harder than you might think!) though.
Just rang Alfa Aid who gave two options;
1. Replace hinge. This is expensive as the hinge is also part of the door hinge assembly. The door and wing have to come off to replace it. Result = expensive.
2. Take the bonnet off, drill the hinge out and replace with a nut and bolt. Not quite so elegant but Adrian said that's what they do most of the time (most of the time? Is this a common problem?) as option 1 is so expensive. Result = 1 1/2 hours labour.
Does anyone else have any experience of this?
