Having seen a few other forum members picking up what I would consider to be absolute bargain Spiders lately, I have been doing a little ebay trawling and daydreaming. I had got semi-approval from my better half, meaning looks of despair and an ever growing feeling that I am loosing the plot. Saw Prilliant's bargain buy, followed by the news of the Zoe Yellow Spider selling for a grand, then spotted this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2712744957...84.m1439.l2649
So, yesterday morning, I thought I would stick in a very cheeky offer, thinking more than likely I will be told to bugger off, then promptly forgot about it. Later on in the day, I got a message from the seller saying "OK then...". Phoned him up and asked a few relevant questions which he couldn't really answer very well, didn't bode too well. Nonetheless, I arranged to go there this morning and have been pleasantly suprised.
Car does have a few problems, no doubt but I still think I got a bargain. I have just got back from Ex forum member Smaky's place - he has given the car a good once over and will be rectifying all problems next week. Good thing too as the MOT/Tax are due at the end of this month.
Electric Hood was listed as non functional - actually the two cables had popped off the retaining points. They are now back on and the roof now working. It does have a minor hydraulic leak which will be fixed.
Rattly engine - this is the variator, which will be replaced next week, along with belts, pulleys and waterpump, plus an oil and filter service. Thermostat may be stuck as never got above 70 in the couple of hours driving done today.
Additional problem - the front tracking is WAAAAY out - tyres are bald on outsides and steering wheel is not centred right.
Car has done 82k, engine runs well apart from the variator, has service history up to 2009 stamped in book with remainder as loose invoices.
Interior is pretty good other than driver's bolster and the ashtray is broken. Appears to have had partial powerflex at the rear. Body work is quite good, few minor dings and chips but could just do with a really good clean and polish to start with.
Colour - from the ebay listings dodgy night time photos I was really praying it would be Lightning Blue - it's not but I'm not too sure what colour code it actually is? Plaque is missing from inside the boot lid - or should I be looking elsewhere? Didn't like the colour all that much when I first clapped eyes on her but it is certainly growing on me.
Paid - £500
Expecting to pay that again to do the above work and be somewhere along the way to getting her presentable. Overall, very happy
