I agree it's quite a simple job but I definitely did something wrong when mounting the new hub. The obvious thing was me missing the thick washer (as you put it) under the nut and screwing directly on to the outer race. Whether it was this or a misalignment that caused the seizure I don't know...
Anyway, I have it off now and have cleaned up the new hub (I've not made one from two). Must say thanks to 1999gtv above for the links to the rebuild. Hopefully if I get it on straight this time then all should be well - fingers crossed!
What do we think about the nut? Should I put it back on or find a source for a new one??
