Hi chaps and chapesses. Haven't been on here in ages as my desire for a GTV/Spider was trumped by the need to carry large dogs around in the back of my car.
Anyway, Meg, my springer, is now chasing celestial bunnies and I'm back on the hunt for a Spider. My other half has always fancied a drop top and I'm a sucker for Alfas, so the 916 is a no brainer.
Went to see a car yesterday. There's aren't many to choose from down here, but we had a look at a black phase 1 that's on EBay. Having spoken to the owner I think £750 will secure the car. The guy selling the car (73 years old, lovely chap) has been very open about any faults the car has. As far as I can tell the mechanicals are excellent but it needs some cosmetic work. The rubberised interior trim pieces are a mess and will need stripping and paint. I can do that myself. The interior fan only blows on position 4. Looks like less than a quid at Maplins will sort this. The rear window could do with replacing but the hood itself doesn't leak. The windows on both doors could do with aligning properly. Should be a days DIY I reckon. I'm nothing if I'm not an optimist
The most serious fault with the car is a nasty dent in the nearside rear wing. Having looked at it I suspect it will need grinding back, a bit of filling, lots of prep and repainting. Any suggestions for how much I'm likely to pay for this work? The passenger door also has a small dent from the same car park prang but I'm more likely to just replace the entire door. Otherwise the bodywork is in excellent condition.
So I'm guessing I could have this car back to very presentable condition for less than £1200 including all the work. Am I mad?
