Thanks for the warm welcome
The engine is certainly intoxicating. A Spider would be nice, but unfortunately I do occasionally
use the back seats. Stop laughing, I know it's a GTV
I'm keeping an eye on all the usual places, but I'm not going to have the money for about 4 weeks. As far as my budget is concerned, it is a little lower than I'd like, however I've had my hand forced by my current car choosing now to go horribly wrong. I was going to get a GTV in the new year and spend about £3,000 - £4,000 on one, but alas... I've seen enough cars in my budget to not be too concerned that all of them will be dogs though, and I could maybe push the budget a bit more if I could get a seller to come down a bit from about £3,000. Unfortunately, if the one I drove is anything to go by, a low mileage example doesn't necessarily seem indicative of quality; it had only done 65,000 but it looked and drove like it had done three times that... I'd much rather buy one with 100,000 on it that has been cared for. I'm prepared to fit extras myself if need be seeing as most don't seem to have had them done, so I'm by no means expecting a £2,500 car to have the diff, clutch, flywheel, etc., but there was one on Autotrader and Pistonheads for £2,400 with everything on it, so stranger things have happened...
I'm no mechanic, however I would like to learn how to do things myself; just never had the time, space or tools to do more than plugs, filters and oil. My friend's done all the work on his himself including the diff, clutch, flywheel, cambelt, etc. so has plenty of experience with the GTV; hopefully I can pick some of it up.
As for the crack in the skirt on my friend's car, that was done by a pheasant running out into the road a while back; it's going to be sorted in the next few weeks. It just passed its MOT with no advisories, so no harm came to the car, but that said, I've driven those tracks and you wouldn't find me doing more than about 20 down there in less than a WRC car
I'll be buying one in cash from a private buyer if I can help it, so it might be the difference between getting a car a bit out of budget within budget, but we'll see. 58,000 miles in excellent condition sounds like a good car for £3,200
Out of interest, does anybody know roughly what a full tan/red phase 2 leather interior goes for? I've seen a few nice cars, especially in blue, but a lot of them seem to have black leather which I only like the idea of on a red or yellow car... Condition and history are obviously more important than the colour of the leather, so swapping the interior could be the best of both worlds. My initial purchase price is a bit lower than I'd like, but I am prepared to spend the money over the next year or so to get the car how I want it.
Somehow the insurance for a 3.0 GTV is the same as my 1.7 Puma... How the hell do they work these things out?
