GTV V6 failed MOT yesterday on emissions plus 15 advisories
! Nothing bad just the usual wear & tear stuff like brakes, airbag light etc but what I cannot get my head around is the extent it failed on the emissions test. Check these figures out :
1st fast idle test:
Carbon Monoxide: limit = 0.20 / actual = 65.54 FAIL
HC (hydrocarbons): limit = 200ppm / actual = 65,535 FAIL
2nd fast Natural
Carbon Monoxide: limit = 0.30 / actual = 65.54 FAIL
HC (hydrocarbons) ... well, they didn't even bother to do it, no point really....
.... the fella at National Tyres (alarm bells already....) said it literally went off the scale it was so bad. Soooo ... maybe that's why all the trees have dissolved near my house ....
.Seriously, I know a lot about gases as I sell gas detection kit amongst other things for my job , I find it v hard to believe the above results. 65,535 ppm VOC's (Hydrocarbons) is literally pure petrol fumes, surely my car can't be running that rich??? It runs superb & smooth, had a full service about 2k miles ago with injection cleaner ... though Gus at Alfatune who did it did have to clean the lambda sensor as it was running a bit rough at that point. No problems since. I tend to use it most at w'ends though & it does go a few days without being driven sometimes.
Any clues??? I guess the first thing to do is new air filter & a nice long run on m/way? New lambda sensor you reckon as well? But if it's running fine does it really need a new one? Or maybe they're just useless at National Tyres or the machine is knacked, on the wrong scale or summat.....
Also, I need to get it all sorted to get a free re-test within 10 days. Ferdi's Garage Lytham is off on hols, not sure if Gus at Alfatune can do repairs he's more of a tuning man (I'll ask him though) ... so does anyone know a decent Alfa specalist in the North West? There are loads down South but up here they seem pretty scant.
