Starting + high revs. Conected?
I have a 96 gtv ts and have recently started having problems. It takes a couple of goes to fire up, and thats after it starts to go but cant seem to hold the revs and dies. If it was a manual choke i'd put it down to not enough open but dont know enough about auto chokes to link it to that. The problem seems realy intermittent as well. It will start first time, i'll drive five mins and have to stop off at the shop and then it wont start properly again, but have no problems for the rest of the day.
The second problem started to occur only after the bad starts but now seems to happen more frequently, but not all the time.
Once the engine has started the revs start to increase, from the usuall 1000 steadily up to over 3000 untill i decide enough is enough and pull off. It will continue to do this (most noticable when the clutch is dipped) for about five minutes then return to normall.
Like i said i thought the two might be connected but the rev things are happening even with good starts.
Some one sugested possibly the air flow meter but i dont think you can check it without replacing it. Is that right?
Any ideas on where to start would be much appreciated.
