Buring smell

Just recently I've noticed that there is a slight burning type of smell coming somewhere from my car. I notice it when I'm stopped at the lights and then when I take off.

When I stop the car I can smell it slightly near the engine. It's not strong, but it is noticeable. It doesn't smell like oil. Any idea on what it might be?

It's a 2000 Spider, 57,000kms, just had the timing belt go on me at 50k, damaged the valves, so had them all replaced. Hopefully am not up for more money now.

Also, my 60k service is due, what will I need to have done?

Re: Buring smell

Quickly check the fuse box under your steering wheel....fuses sometimes burn and ignite...not good.

Re: Buring smell

Could be the clutch if you can smell it when you set off. I sometimes get a whiff of hot clutch if I take of from the lights quickly.

Re: Buring smell

If you had engine work done recently it could be oil or lubricants burning off a hot surface...it should gradually go away but check the fuse-box too... I've heard of a few fuse-box fires on GTVs.
