Hmmm GTV Air Conditioning click / brief power outage

Hi Guys

Lovely weather? I have a 1997 GTV which has started a rather odd sound. When I have my Air Con on, every 60 seconds or so, a click/tick sound happens around the footwell, and the blower, speedometer needle and RPM needle all drop to zero then go back to their original readings. It doesn't seem to alter the engine performance. My old 156 used to tick (I suspected that was a thermostat on the Climate control) and that was fine

Any Ideas

(PS) I have got the old AFM problem at the moment too so I am a true Alfa owner it seems

Re: GTV Air Conditioning click / brief power outage electrical problem Clicking sounds like a relay but the items you're talking about have seperate circuits.

I suggest a trip to a vehicle electrician.

i wonder if that relay joins at a common earth point with the other items?
try to trace wires back from clicking relay, you may find a dirty earth contact.

Is it still coming out cold? Is it taking a while? It could be that it's just in need of a re-gas. Had a similar problem on a mondeo, kept clicking, revs kept increasing though with the click, re-gassed and serviced a/c - no problems after that.

hi, sorry for such a late reply. Just joined an browsing the forum. What you describe is the a/c compressor cutting in and out. It does this when either its reached its desired temperature, or its cutting out on low refrigerant pressure. It'll need topped up with refrigerant. Shouldnt be too expensive if you find a local refrigeration engineer- yes, look up yellow pages for fridge repairs! Unless you're passing through scotland an I'll do it for a reasonable proce!
