Been waiting since December for nice black P2 V6 and nothing; then two come up at once! Could I ask you knowledgable guys for some advice please?
Car 1: Saw the car today (the one clarkson drives in the top gear head-to-head on youtube) so it has a claim to fame. Lovely looking thing, newly painted and owner's done a lot of work on it himself: Koni adjustable suspension shocks
Powerflex polly bushes
2.5 V6 lighter flywheel and clutch
Stainless steel cat back exhaust
As well as lots of repairs himself including reconditioning steering rack, replace gearbox, front susp arms and body respray. Cambelt and water pump replaced
by Simply Alfas in 2009, Cam position sensor replaced 2010.
My questions revolve around the cambelt: all the garages I've called say even though it's only covered a few miles in the past four years, the time itself counts too and it is due changing. Is this your recommendation too? If so, I'd need to factor in, what, another 5-600quid? (Also there is no brown master key and no service history before the current owner). I think I would have pulled the trigger if those things hadn't worried me. (I've made mistakes buying alfas before - expensive!)
Car 2: Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 V6 24V Lusso 2dr Coupe 1999
Reg V331 ECD
Anyone know anything about it? This one has had cambelt changed last year, think it has FSH from previous owners and at £3250 is cheaper than option 1.
What do you guys think? Am I being paranoid about the cambelt change for car 1 or would this be something most people would be thinking when making an offer for the car? I do like the show-off factor of pointing mates to the youtube link!
Many thanks for any help or advice!
