Instrument light failure
I'm going through the workshop manual's electrical diagnostic procedure (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS ABS 55-31 Test J) for checking the point of failure for the ABS instrument light...I'm not a mechanic or auto electrician so it's pretty slow going to say the least.
I've tested for continuity between pin 12 of G273 (the ABS unit connector) and pin 1 of T8 (the diag connection port) and pin 15 of G273 and pin 3 of T8 and it shows continuity. (btw the diagnostic instructions have the T8 pins mixed up but the actual wiring diagram shows the correct pins to test).
So now I'm doing the final two checks in 'Test J', which are checking earth signals at pin B3 of the instrument cluster connector (+15 supply for the instrument panel, whatever the hell that means) and pin 1 of G273 (which runs to C10 instrument panel).
Problem is I don't know what the instructions mean, it says:
TURN THE KEY AND CHECK FOR 0V FOR A FEW SECONDS.
Is it supposed to read zero volts constantly? Or is it supposed to read 0v "for a few seconds" then give some voltage reading?
I'm getting no voltage reading when I turn on the ignition for pin B3 at the instrument cluster, but I don't know if this is "OK" for the test or not, so I don't know if it's the instrument cluster at fault...and the same goes for the earth signal "Test J3" at pin one of G273.
This is the Bosch 2Si ABS unit btw on a P1.
Apologies for writing War and Peace here...can anyone help?
