If you do the job properly, the bushes fit perfectly. By properly, using the correct washers in the correct place, cleaning the subframe/hub recesses of dirt and corrosion and grinding off excess weld on the springarm to allow the bushes to fit snugly against the metal all the way round. If the bushes are flush and the recess is clean, each end should slide in with minimal effort.
No point messing about with Mercedes bushes as you'll definitely need a press to fit them and there really isn't much point.
Removing the old bushes is the hardest part. A press is good but the burn & hacksaw method is fine. Just be careful with the hacksaw that you don't cut into the arms. Inspect the springarms carefully as they're only pressed steel and can corrode to become very thin.
