Airbag light

Yes, it's permanently on. Not that it bothers me as my only encounter with a deploying airbag is a bad memory. I had imagined falling into a fluffy pillow. I ended up with a bloody nose, split lip, broken spectacles and ultimately two very black eyes.

However, I know it's an MoT failure item - not due until September 2013 - so what is likely to be wrong and what sort of cost implication is there?

For the time being, it's been 'cured' - judicious application of black PVC tape.

Any indy will just turn it off for you about 30. Mine does it for free at MOT time because I use them for everything else. PVC tape will now not get you an MOT.

You might want to buy a lead and download the software - cost you about the same but if you are not interested in DIY diagnostics for anything else I wouldn't bother and just pay up.

Most common cause is a drained battery. The airbag ECU will indicate an error if the battery voltage goes under 9,5V (at least the ECU in my -97). Second, I would say, is bad connection in the connectors to the seat belt tensioners under the seats.

Someone with Multiecuscan will hook up to the ECU in minutes and tell you where to start looking. Error indication can also be reset with Multiecuscan.

To be honest I have bought the cable and download MultiECUScan for free and reset it yourself.
