Unhappy. Just waxed another grand on the car (powerflex rear, new door glass & guides & sorting wind noises)... Now this. Always at the worst times....
Anyway I cant get to my trusty garage due to snow and access to them is currently only by 4x4 so the beast is stuck in my garage and I am stuck in the house stewing about what might be wrong.
Its doing the following: Starts fine from cold, idles OK. Drives ok if gentle on throttle. Go further and engine gets warmer, give more throttle. After a few miles, (may be 2 or 10 miles or more) can feel engine trying to cut out, bail out to roadside and it wont idle just stalls (or might idle but zero throttle response on a very low idle).
Starts up again fine, wont idle though. If you start, got to keep the revs up or will die. Car can be 'milked' along, might drive ok for several miles if revs low and constant. Managed to drive about 15 miles like this before it happened again. Unplugged the MAF. Car drove OK for about 10 miles, then.... same again.
Speak to mechanic on phone who says could still be the MAF. Its 4 yrs old so past its sell by date for a GTV MAF.
Change to new MAF. Fine for 5 miles or so them back to same, bad as ever.
What is surprising with all this is at no point has the nasty little injector light come on; it does that if there are throttle problems (and I had plenty of those in the past; all the connector blocks have been hard wired and the potentiometer wash changed 2 years ago).
I'm worried its the ECU... (which has recently had the Alfatune remap).
Anyone got any ideas to put me out of my misery??
