No, the stock headunit is powered by 2 permanent battery feeds.
New headunit's like to be supplied with, 1 permanent power feed (battery +12v) and 1 +12v switched feed, i.e. a wire that comes live when ignition is switched on. On this setup the headunit can only be powered if the ignition is switched on, thus preventing headunit being left on with ignition off, thus causing excessive battery drain, in other words a flat battery.
The battery feed is solely for the memory of the head unit. The switched live is to operate, head unit switches on etc, of the head unit.
On the Pioneer lead IIRC, there will be a red lead and yellow lead, these are the power feed leads, one of them has to be connected to an ignition source.
Can you post a picture of the headunit lead?
