Apologies if this has been posted before, but there's a strange and mysterious Spider for sale at the moment:
Alfa romeo Spider 1996 | Trade Me
Seller says it's "one of a kind" and I think he might be telling the truth there
It is claimed to be a 1996, and it looks like a 1996 (phase-1 front grille, black skirts), and checking the number plate on carjam shows it is a 1996 Twinspark: Um6263: ALFA ROMEO SPIDER 1996 | CarJam
, albeit one with a 3-litre engine and an odometer that has decreased twice!
It seems that someone grew tired of the Twinspark engine and put in a 24V V6 (as far as I know, a 1996 Spider would have had a 12-valve engine, so that engine can't be original), and while they were at it, same dedicated person appears to have fitted the entire interior from a phase-2 car, including the climate control! Top effort...
In effect it seems the phase-1 was used to re-shell a phase-2.
Asking price is the equivalent of £5924 - a bit less than usual for a V6 Spider in NZ (seller probably deserves it after all that unbolting and bolting). Wonder how much such a project would be worth in England...
