Hmmm. If the bearing has been making noise, then the crank is likely to be scored - if the bearing has spun, then the crank certainly needs to come out. New shells on a lightly scored crank - not a long term fix, but would get you another year of driving probably. Depends on the damage.
If the rest of the car is in good order, dropping a secondhand engine in is the right answer. If you aren't in a great hurry, the right one (as in well looked after, written off by someone driving into the back of it) will show up.
