If it is a regular knocking that increases with road speed you need to look at the mechanical drivetrain components. CV joints will tend to get louder when turning; take it to a car park, put it on full lock and do some slow turns. Also check for loose wheel nuts, loose hub nut and loose brake caliper (should be obviouse as it would knock under braking). If it's irregular knocking then look for something loose on the supension side. Check for a broken spring, this can "clonk" when the strut is twisted during turning. Check your undertray, if it is loose and starts to flap about in the wind it might be knocking on something.
