Front Dirt Shields

Hello everyone,

I've noticed the dirt shields on the front of my 916 are tiny... Is this a Twinspark specific design or are they all like that?

It means that the inside face disc wear is much greater than the outside face, and after 12000 miles there is quite a lot of wear

I think that front dirt shield is more a protection for the ball joint rubber boot/grease against the heat from the brake disc than a protection of the brake disk, if you have uneven wear of the brake disc you should probably take a look at the brake caliper so that it acts evenly on both sides of the brake disc/brake pads.

Dirt shield looks the same on the V6.

If you mean one side of the disc is less polished than the other that is caused by the pads (or possibly pistons) being partially seized so that only one pad is being effectively pressed against the disc (on the polished side). Take the pads out & perhaps calipers off and clean everything up, check the pistons push in ok, and that the pads are free when replaced. With Brembo calipers the problem is usually corrosion under the slider plates forcing them to bulge against the pads and stopping them from moving against the disc. Its a bugger...
