I am very excited as I always wanted an Alfa but also a bit scared I must admit...
P reg 97 2.0 TS GTV Phase 1, red with red leather interior (phase 2), 2 owners, enthusiast owner (with other Alfas in the garage and a stunning Lancia Montecarlo), good service history from main dealers up until 2003 and a couple of documented major services in 2009 and 2011, with the all important belts done, etc.
Drove the car 120 miles home yesterday and it drives very well, no knocks or nasty sounds from the suspension, gearbox felt solid, engine was smooth and sounded good. Everything electric works. A few niggles I've already found is a very slight sort of belt noise, especially with a cold engine, the car is running below 90 degrees (around 60) which I presume must be a faulty thermostat (?) and spongy brakes.
So, for peace of mind, I'm thinking of taking the car to an Alfa specialist for diagnostic and an oil/filter change. What would you recommend doing additionally?
Love the looks of the car, it is in really good aesthetic condition, inside and outside, and the feel good factor is immense! I am, however, a bit scared of all the horror stories, really hope the car gives me more pleasure than pain...
