Well, I went in took a plunge and bought it
The car is in quite good nick actually. The engine bay is slightly rusty, but my main thought was even if it was a lemon, at 1k, I can sell the parts and recover most of my loses. The alloys are mint and tyres with it as well. Interior is actually like brand new. There is not a hint of wear on the passengers seat. Not sure if has been replaced or something. Feels very solid. I guess these 2 even if sold for parts can net me about £750 or so.
Anyway, bad parts are engine rust although I think they are mostly superficial so I guess not going to cause any problems running it in. I went and have a look under the engine and the pipes look like it is leaking but it isn't corroded so not sure if that is something simple. It is the metal pipes so I think it can probably be just cleaned up with some WD40.
Other than that, sounds good. No diesel sound or anything. Engine warms up to the right temp after a while. Didn't get to drive it out but it revs up just fine. Apparently the guy said that the car alarm sounds when the battery becomes low and he removed the alarm horn. I read somewhere that if the alarm is a problem that it can drain the battery? What battery would you guys recommend ? The Bosch S5 ?
I checked oil and all, looks ok. Nothing lumpy or murky etc.
Wipers need doing. Supplied front brakes and pads needs doing. Rear brakes + pads needs replaced. Going to get a specialist to see to it maybe on Tuesday if time allows but as long as it finishes the banger rally, I'll be happy.
Would you guys recommend changing the spark plugs? The last cambelt change was at 76k miles. Car is now at 120k miles... would you go for a change now ?
