Starter motor had it?
For a while now I've had brief rattle on startup when cold. My mechanic thought it would probably be dry bearings in the starter motor (but if I could put up with the sounds it shouldn't cause any probs). Well today the car just wouldn't start; took about 10 attempts. Battery is brand new and of good specification, so it's definitely not that. When it DID start, it fired up straight away as normal. I turned off and tried again… it wouldn't start again! Several more attempts and it started again. I'd been out in the car a couple of hours earlier and didn't have any trouble. Seems very hit-and-miss, but can only assume knackered starter motor or some sort of short/bad connection? Thoughts anyone?
