Hey all, well I have been a lurker for a while. I always liked the GTV and a few years back, when I was looking to get my first car, I was contemplating between an rx8 and the GTV 3.0 cup. After looking at the insurance, I decided to buy the rx8 231 and I of course still have it! Anyway, now that I have introduced myself, back to the topic
Basically, 5 me and my mates have decided to do a 'top gear' style challenge, just that its £1k instead of £10k
After looking at ebay and gumtree etc, I find that I can buy very high mileage 2.0 GTV (I prefer a non spider). The ones I've seen are normally in excess of 120k miles. Not an issue as I have clocked 116k in my rx8 in the original motor (although I know a lot more than I know about GTVs!)
My main question is, what are the main problems I will need to look for? I mean for example, with the rx8, it is advisable to never switch the car off when the engine is cold as it will get flooded, there were also things like problems with cording alloys etc.
I am planning to buy and actually keep the Alfa so I am hoping to not buy a lemon. Are there any years to avoid when buying? Example is with the rx8s, the earlier models had a slow starter motor which will and can contribute to the 'flooding' problem as mentioned above. I have had a look some of the threads and it seems that the GTV is a lot more 'accessible' and easy to maintain than the rx8 so will prob be looking to get one maybe next month when I'm back from my holidays
Any clubs/ meets around Glasgow area ?
