Spider passenger window problem

I have a 2002 spider which seems to have a mind of its own electrically.

Open the passenger door and window drops 50% or sometimes 100%. In the past shut door and window goes up fully. Recently after shutting door the switch must be pressed on either side to close the window as it will not close automatically.
Now when I open the door the window goes down 100%. Close door and nothing. Switches do not close it either and regular ticking noise from door panel. I have to remove fuses for the window circuit replace (there is usually a click like something is resetting) after a few seconds and then window can be closed using switch.
Obviously I can't remove fuses every time I open the passenger door and so looking for a solution.
Called dealer and said would have to see and diagnose...£80 for diagnosis. If I had to pay 80 quid every time I had a problem with this cars electrics I would be pennyless!

Any advice appreciated.

First thing to do is disconnect and reconnect the connector between the door and A pillar in case there's a poor contact in there.

If that doesn't fix it, there are two possibilities that come straight to mind.

1. the microswitch cam needs readjusting and tightening
2. the microswitch is in the process of failing.

Both those will require the removal of the door card.

For 1. It's a free fix. Just adjust the cam until you get the correct amount of drop with the door open and tighten it back up.

If the microswitch has failed, you can get replacements for about £60 from Alfa. Or, you can buy the same microswitch for about £15 elsewhere and crimp on some terminals.

Thanks for your advice PKR.

When the snow clears I will try your suggestions.

My guess is that option 2 is more likely as the symptoms would suggest an electrical problem rather than mechanical but as option 1 is free it makes sense to tidy things up whilst the door card is removed.
