Regarding Monroe Dampers - I have found the following on my car in comparison with OE dampers.
1. Full extension Armstrong 320mm OE 325mm
2. Compressed Armstrong 247mm OE 230mm
There is therefore a shortfall on the Armstrong stroke of about 22mm which will be more at the wheel.
Also the gas pressure appears to be considerably more and the (non-adjustable) valving much stiffer in the Armstrongs.
I have not measured the normal ride length of the damper but I would imagine from the figures and the way the car rides that it is the bump travel that has suffered. These units were fitted by a previous owner and I can only assume they were supplied as OEM 'replacement' parts.
I would be interested to compare notes with you on ride characteristics.
-- Since posting this, now the snow has gone, I have measured 37 cm on both fronts and 38.5 on NSR and 38 OSR on what look like the original springs.
