How to replace CLUCH MASTER CYLINDER
If you have sympoms of the clutch plundging to the floor and not returning, firstly check ths slave cylinder its cheaper and alot easier to swap out.
How to check the integrity of the slave
check to see if there is brake fluid sitting ontop of the gearbox, if not pull the boot aside a little and see if any comes out. If no fluid is present then its your master. To check the slave you may need to remove the induction system unless its very obvious that its failed.
1 Master Cylinder
1 At least 50cm's of 10mm (3/8") rubber hose
2 Hose clamps
Brake fluid (Dot 4)
2 M6 Nyloc Nuts
WD40 or the like
Jack's and Axle stands
13mm Socket with as many extension bar you can find.
17mm socket or spanner
Pointer nose pliers
Long side cutter or tin snips
Longish cable ties
Jack the front of the car on both side as high as you can and secure with axle stands.
Disconnect the exhaust from the manifold and cable tie it out of the way. make sure you lube and clean the ends of the studs or the nuts will shear off like they did for me (2nd picture).
Using the EEZIBLEED, ensure you drain as much of the fluid from the clutch sustem. Attach a rubber hose to the slave bleed nipple and drain into a catch bottle.
Using a cable tie hook the cable tie around the feed from the brake fluid tank at where the rubber hose from the master connects and use it to pull the hydrolic line away from the bulk head, now cut the hose clip from the rubber hose.
Next undo the 13mm union feed to the slave, you may at this stage want make sure you wear eye protection and cover your face, disconnect and make a sharp exit cove the floor to collect any spillage. Go and have a cuppa whilst the fluid drains away.
From inside the car slide the seat as far back as you can. Remove the pin and washer from the clutch pedel. Now with you super extended socket this will enable you to see and guide the socke to the 13mm nuts holding the master in place. Undo the nuts slide the rod off of the pedal pin and remove the master.
Fit the New rubber hose to the new cylinder mark on the new hose the lenght to which it needs to be cut, Coz at this stage when you do need to cut it you dont want to cut it too short.
You can see the hole in which the new rubber hose will need to thread into, lube both hose and gromet with wd40 and refit the new master cylinder, refit the rod to the pedal refit the pin, using the 2 new nyloc nut fit and fully tighten them try the pedal to make sure it isnt binding.
From under the car cut the new rubber hose to lenght, slide the new hose clamp over the metal pipe from the tank and fit the rubber hose and tighten the hose clamp. How refit the pipe to the slave and fully tighten it.
Bleed the clutch sysem and make sure the clutch operates correctly.
Refit Exhaust using gasket paste, Induction system and lower car to the ground test drive and tap yourself on the back...
It took me about 2 hrs from start to finish...
