I think there's a law somewhere in Europe about having to leave sidelights on when parked on the roadside. On my old Mk2 Golf you could leave just the nearside or offside lights on by leaving the indicator stalk pushed down or up.

Do you not have to go back and turn them off though? or is there some sort of timer switch?
