The tyres I have on my car are Dunlop SP sport fast response. One site I found was giving them an E rating in the wet, where as other sites were giving them a B. In independent magazine testing they are usually very near the top of the group they are tested in.
I am pretty sure the manufacturers do test them themselves, obviously there are testing criteria, but I still think the whole setup is flawed.
Even if a tyre does score well in wet braking, noise and fuel economy there are other aspects not tested which are tested on a proper review.
Straight line aquaplaning, curved aquaplaning, dry grip, wear, and how a tyre actually feels are not even considered on the EU tyre rating.
Also found that a Pirelli P6000 gets a C rating for wet grip. The Toyo proxes T1R gets an E, so you could be fooled into thinking the P6000 is a decent tyre.
