Actually, immediately after writing that, I went to Trademe.co.nz to check on the Zoe yellow V6 Spider in Wanaka (gorgeous part of the South Island: great excuse for a long road trip). I think that one is still unsold although the ad has expired. Asking price was $17500 or near offer.
BUT now there is YET ANOTHER Zoe yellow V6 Spider for sale!
it's not far away from the other one and identical spec (i.e. looks exactly like mine, same interior, same wheels, same blue hood) but is definitely a different car, different number plate. 85,000km and looks mint. Asking price $15,000. Gosh my life is tough sometimes.
With all these Zoe Yellow Spiders coming in from Japan, they're becoming more common than GTVs of any colour...! Though there is a well-cared-for grey GTV V6 local to me for sale, under $10,000 and low kms, if it was (say) $8000, then I think it might be worth doing an engine/running gear/loom swap into my car. Why? Well, I'd still be able to make a tidy grey Twinspark GTV at the end of it, and if that sold for, say, $4000, that's a cheap way to get a V6 Zoe yellow Spider (apart from the time requirement). Not very cheap compared to that second Spider I mentioned, but not far off.
The description is hilarious: http://www.trademe.co.nz/531918717
It's a bit puzzling that the silver GTV is a 1999 but a phase-1. Wonder if it has the six-speed gearbox. What a pity that I prefer the look of my 166, otherwise I could just buy that GTV instead
Mmmmmm and to think the last Zoe yellow Spider I saw in Auckland was a Twinspark and had a manual hood, cloth interior - it sold for $21,000 at a dealer. Similar condition to mine, perfect of course (I'm so modest, hahah... well, the only glitch on mine is a faded hood cover).
I really should put mine on the market for the $11,000 I bought it for. To answer the question of the thread, I repaired/painted the wheels, replaced rear wheel bearings and discs, and had a new exhaust system made up. And a sound system upgrade with Infinity Kappa speakers, Fusion sub behind driver's seat, with a Sony all-features iPod-docking head unit. Plus the usual cambelt maintenance etc. It therefore owes me a bit over $13,000, but I'd let that slide...
