I had completely corroded screws and inserts on the air box. I took it off and drilled new holes and have put in 4 brass screws with butterfly style nuts so as I can change again. I also cleaned up all the metal fixings and hammerited them. Will try and post a pic next week.
Re air filters, the pic of OEM that rixf 666 shows next to his Pipercross has the metal gauze over the paper. The last one I got didn't have the metal. Do the new ones not have the metal or did I get sent an aftermarket one?
Since the pure paper one has been in, I've been having engine stuttering on the motorway in very heavy rain which I haven't managed to sort out. I was thinking of cleaning the MAF but I wonder if the lack of metal on the air filter may mean water is getting in more easily? Wishful thinking I imagine but I'll have a look and see if the paper one looks as though it has got wet and, if so, search out one with a metal gauze.
