GTV constantly sounding it's alarm...
Need some urgent help with the alarm of my just acquired GTV - a 2001 2.0TS. I'm a reasonably accomplished spanner wielder - but have never worked on a GTV. Today the negative connection detached itself from the battery..on it's own... slightly bizzarely! Reconnected it and the alarm gave a single beep.
Started the engine and the alarm started sounding - and kept sounding - and isn't it ever loud. This instantly furrowed the brow of everyone within half a mile! Disconnected the battery again, the negative connection just pulled off - so there's clearly an issue there - but the alarm continued as of course it's got it's own batteries.
As I don't know the car yet, I feverishly began looking for the siren unit to disconnect it...whilst doing this the alarm stopped - and for now at least there is peace.
The car came with only one key - which is red and has no buttons to set or unset the alarm. I had the same trouble with my 2003 156, which had alarm control buttons and was sorted by a very helpful guy who specialises in fob repairs and is a member on here.
The GTV came with a peculiar looking black fob type thing with 3 very small buttons (which have no feel) and a floppy key shaped bit of plastic sticking out of it. It's got the words 'Meta system' on it. I haven't tried these buttons yet - as the car is in a friend's barn for a while and the black fob thing was at home..so whether it would have been any help or not I don't know.
Please can anyone advise what I need to do to re-set the alarm? - and whether that black fob item is to control the alarm (hard to believe that it does).
Also - if the alarm continues to give trouble, please can someone tell me where to find the siren unit so I can remove it?
I'd be really grateful for any help/suggestions/know how on this as I'm mindful that the car (even in a rural barn) could be a real nuisance making a constant racket. I'm constantly expecting a phone call to say the alarm is disturbing the peace again.
Thanks in anticipation.
