I have just changed discs and pads (drilled and grooved MTEC, very VERY nice indeed!) and the clutch fluid.
As most of you will know, brake fluid is the colour of lager, golden. 1997 vintage came out though and was the colour of 'dirty prune juice'!
Now, my point here is to let you all know that the clutch fluid was double the darkness of the brake fluid, it was black, BLACK!!! Now all of you will be tempted to go out and change it now I am sure, here is my warning, pressing the clutch pedal will eject more than double the amount of DOT4 than pressing the pedal, so in half the time of bleeding a caliper I managed to drain the reservoir. So guess what my next job is? Yep tomorrow I get to re bleed the brakes!
It's worth doing, but be careful, it is proper scary when the clutch pedal suddenly goes totally slack and won't bounce back up
. If that happens to you, you have drained the reservoir, re-fill it and get pumping, it comes good again and you get a clutch that feels like a brand new car!
