I agree with your colour choice Johnny
. Mine is also in need of a respray again as it has been done previously but not to the best standard. At 5k I better start saving
I've had my car since may last year and have spent about 7.5k and it's still no where near as tidy as I want it to be!! I should have walked away but I wanted to save it!
My girlfriends spider on the other hand has been a dream only spending money for regular servicing and a few bits here and there, although it does now need a new exhaust!
I did go a little overboard on the bodywork I guess... Thing was, the car wasnt that bad, I just wanted it really really like new... no half measures. And bodywork being the hardest thing on a car to get right, I tried to make sure it was really worth it. A 2 grand blowover would not have cut it, might as well have kept as it was..... Although 5 grand sounds like a lot, (and is!) once you tot up new mirrors (£150 each) new door glass and rear quarter glass (£500) and new sill panel (the plastic side panel that says alfa romeo on it - was cracked - at £150) theres nearly £1k there and that Nuvola paint itself aint cheap - my materials bill was nearly £1k iirc - I thought the painters did a superb job - shameless plug for Surface & Design of Blackpool, the TVR men of the ex TVR factory base. After much research and memories of whacky TVR paint jobs I thought they might be the best at weird paint!
They had the car for about 6 weeks, dismantled and rebuilt everything properly (half the battle on a paint job is the build) - basically painted and repainted the panels until it was perfect. I just left them to it, and they still only charged me the quoted original price. I supplied the parts so the bill to them wasnt the full £5k. The work that went in, if I had been on the clock, I shudder to think...
Went to pick it up and it was heart in mouth time - but it blew me away. Still does!
With regard to other things, its been pretty reliable barring those goddamn bushes and balljoints everywhere - and throttle issues now hopefully sorted. Most other cash gone on improvements and goodies Q2 and GTA clutch / flywheel next month! By the way - if you need an exhaust - do yourself a favour and get the Alfaholics one. An utterly superb piece of kit, sounds great and fits like a dream
