I think you can find your answers here by searching, I am thinking of the 'just found out my GTV V6 as a 2.5 V6 in it and not a 3.0' thread, and the threads involving AL, South Africans and others making their own 3.7 and 3.8 V6s.
GTAs seem to suffer from ECU failure. It would seem the ECU is different as well as the swept volume and the cam otherwise people would be taking the ECUs from broken 3 litre GTVs and using them as well as the catless exhaust manifolds.
I think on the road or track the driver makes the most difference. Someone here has or had a rather nice Proteo red GTV V6 that was advertised as having 252bhp so it would seem possible to get a GTV V6 to comparable figures, but it all seems a bit Top Trumps to me. I think there's more to how a car performs and drives than the BHP and torque figures.
