I don't think it's going to need much to turn it into a beauty. Not all that much wrong with it to be fair. The gear linkage is like stirring porridge and needs some attention. I'll need to put a cam belt on it as it's an unknown quantity. Few little things it'll need but nothing major i'm aware of so far.
The car was obviously enthusiast owned and seems well looked after. It has Bilstein shocks and a decent exhaust system (not sure what one yet). The car looks like it's been cherished. No kerbing on the wheels.
The bodywork looks fantastic, no signs or rust or dents, hardly any marks on it at all. All the paint looks original. I was surprised by it. Was expecting poor paint, signs of damage, etc.
I'm not up on my GTV values but it looks to me that if it had history to back it up it'd be worth about 3k+
I must have got lucky timing wise, turns out the MOT was done yesterday and I was the 1st person that was able to come and look at it. If I didn't give the deposit at 2pm i'd have lost it as he had someone offer him more over the phone during the afternoon.
It drives sublime (other than changing gear), think i've had a right result here.
The reason the owner has changed in the last week was because the V5 was in the name of the DVLA auction house.
I'm going to write to the previous owner, never know my luck, might be able to buy the original keys and service history off him if he still has it.
From what i've been told, it seems the owner was someone that had gone abroad in the armed services, left it on the road, the tax ran out and it racked up some big fines. He couldn't afford to pay them so the car was repossessed. The car has a sticker from Cornwall on it. Let's hope I don't get some nut case recognise it and smash it up!!! I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner was someone on here.
It seems the trader I bought it off was happy to make a quick buck and didn't realise the true value of the car. I think he thought it was worth less than a 2.0 as it's expensive to run.
Here is a pic from when I went back to pick it up. http://i48.tinypic.com/2a5yjch.jpg
