With a little help from a friend who is an air conditioning specialist, I had my Spider checked for leaks. None found, and the pressure was only a little low.
So we discharged the system and I replaced the receiver/drier - not as easy a job as it could be because the air filter housing has to come out - but the receiver/drier itself is a standard part shared with lots of modern cars, so it was CHEAP and my friend had it in stock. It's an aluminium cylinder with the pipes bolted to it. It's a filter and also has a desiccant in it to remove any moisture from the system.
With the system recharged with the correct amount of oil and refrigerant, it works really well. Whole job only cost me $80 (about 40 in your money), a bit more if you're paying someone to replace the receiver/drier as well.
