Lynn - for financial recompense, the garage are at fault for bashing the shocks about when they didn't fit.
Its not always a case of use a bigger hammer.
I would be asking them to contribute to rectifying this.
Thinking about this further, the plate that they attempted to bash out of the way of the tyre - this would be under spring pressure to bend back down to its original position of rubbing on the tyre.
What they attempted to do when bashing it clear is both unbelievably stupid and unbelievably dangerous. Good job they didn't persevere and send you out with an accident waiting to happen.
I would suggest that they fit your car with OEM shocks at their expense.
