Oil leak after head rebuild
Hi. Having a slight problem with my GTV 2.0L TS. Cam belt went earlier this year which meant new valves, gaskets, valve seals etc. Pistons looked ok and so my mechanic endeavoured to get the car back on the road.
After the head rebuild and driving it for a few days I noticed it was running low on oil. Every time I started the car after it had been standing for a while, I was greeted with a plume of blue smoke out of the exhaust. I was going through around 2 L of oil every 200 miles! My mechanic suggested that a possible cause may be due to him not putting the valve seals on properly and offered to do the job again FOC. However, the problem got worse as I lost power in one cylinder so my mechanic and I decided to bite the bullet and take the head apart last week.
We found the cause of the loss in power - an exhaust valve with a chunk taken out of it.
After replacing the valves, gaskets, water pump, cam belt again we put the head back together again. The car fired up and sounded sweet. But having driven it now for a couple of days, I have lost a couple of litres of oil. I dont get the blue smoke on startup but I have seen a large plume of smoke when I have pulled away quickly.
The smoke is not visible all the time and only happens when I put my foot down.
I also have a bit of a flat spot at low revs...
Any help in diagnosing the problem(s) would be most welcome as I am desperate to enjoy this car.
